Welcome from the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Welcome from the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Sul Ross State University! We have designed this site as a resource for those who would like to learn more about our academic programs, policies, and activities.

Sul Ross State University began its second century of service to west Texas in 2020.  From our humble beginning as Sul Ross Normal College to our place as a regional university encompassing four campuses in Alpine, Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde, Sul Ross has embraced our mission to provide accessible, comprehensive, and life-changing education through high quality academic programs and research, cultural awareness, creativity, and service. Our team of dedicated faculty and staff work tirelessly to make these goals a reality for our students and prepare them for a lifetime of learning and productive careers.

Sul Ross has long been recognized as a leader in educational value with an exceptional personal touch.  We are incredibly proud of that tradition, and it will continue to be an integral part of our institutional culture.  Today, that social contract remains at the heart of our mission and is expressed through our strategic goals as we seek to:

  • Promote the success of all students;
  • Offer exceptional academic and educational programming;
  • Achieve significant progress in research and creative activity as measured by national standards; and,
  • Provide the necessary services, resources, and infrastructure to support the university’s strategic direction.

To reach these goals, we work with the President’s Cabinet, the deans and faculty of the academic units, staff, students, the community, and other stakeholders to develop academic priorities and provide resources to move them forward. The Provost’s office ensures excellence in all teaching, research, and service activities benefiting the educational needs of the diverse population throughout west Texas and in the middle Rio Grande region.

Thank you for your interest in the work of the Provost’s Office. Please contact us if we can assist you in learning more about Sul Ross State University.
